UFC MMA

A sport which has been broadcast on international pay-per-view channels is for some reason not being broadcast here. On one hand I am thankful that it isn’t and on the other hand I must say it showcases the most advanced athletic talent I have ever seen and that I think is the top of the athletic food chain. MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is a bloody affair involving men from all different martial arts backgrounds. It has kickboxers, karate experts, judo experts, wrestlers, brawlers, short guys, fat guys, tall guys and really mean guys! It is gruesome and bloody because it is almost totally no-holds barred with only a few rounds of 10 minutes, five minutes and three minutes (I think). It gets really physical and blood is everywhere – oh and they just have to wear some really light fist gloves. It is on the rise and you have K-1 which is Japanese, Ultimate Fighting Championship and Pride which are American.

The fighters are really a mean bunch too. Some have military backgrounds, others were simply street brawlers and one is even a teacher! One of the referees and ex-fighter was a policeman. I don’t really like blood very much as this is totally beating the crap out of your opponent. If you don’t, he will, and you might end up seriously damaged. I am really suffering from indecision here – I don’t know whether to continue watching the fights or not! (the screen grab is of two of the most lethal men in MMA- Mirko”Cro-cop” Filipovic-Croatia and Vanderlei Silva-Brazil)
