A fascinating place I must say. I always like going there – it seems like a totally detached island…nothing to do with reality and everything there is so surreal.
For example…I came across this really funky group of Filipinos who set up this rock band. The men all had mullets and wore leather waistcoats and the women had massive shoulder pads with cheap studs stuck to them! They called themselves Icy Idaho (I have no idea why) and they knew almost every single 60’s, 70’s and 80’s rock song that came out of America.
They’ve been on the island for about 13 years and every Thursday they participate in a battle of the bands competition in a large Bahraini hotel. They have almost always faced the same band in the competition that has almost always consisted of two competing bands and a group of drunk and depressed US navy officers, Gulfies and women of the night.
Wow!
Just came back from Bahrain
14 March, 2009Commuters standing? Packed trains? No problem at all!

Take a good look at this bastard. His name is Dr Mike Mitchell and he is the director-general of railways at the Department for Transport. He is a tosser. Why? Let me tell you why. As you are aware, the transport system in London and the entire UK is under a massive strain…not because of the lack of funding but because of incompetent bastards like him, companies that charge ridiculous amounts of money and no real development and expansion plan. The Tubes are always packed during rush hour; overground trains are ALWAYS late (always meaning 95% of the time – my overground train is actually on time twice a week if I am lucky-I ride it about 15 times a week). To top it all off; drivers are paid fantastically well, have great holidays and benefits and you and I, THE ACTUAL CUSTOMERS are being charged SHITLOADS of money to keep this decrepit system running.
Now onto what this man, (Dr Mitchell) was quoted as saying: “he does not think it is unacceptable to expect to stand in the peak. It is not realistic for passengers to expect a seat in rush-hour”.
Yes it’s not realistic because the system is rubbish – BUT IT IS CERTAINLY REASONABLE to request it; especially when we PAY for it.
Dr Mitchell is chauffeur-driven to work.
